What you need to know about Antennas

Whip - a whip antenna is usually 7 to 8 inches long, and are usually the standard antenna. They usually offer no gain in signal strength.

Stubby - a study antenna is usually about 3 to 4 inches long, it's usually offered as an option, it makes your two-way radio more comfortable to wear especially around the waist, but they may not be for everyone. Sometimes their could be a small sacrifice in range, this all depends on your frequency.

Heliflex or Helical - these antennas vary in length, but are usually larger than normal antennas and extremely thicker and very stiff. They do not bend very well. They usually offer greater range and coverage because many have internal coils which enhance the performance of your radio. They are extremely uncomfortable, especially if you wear your radio constantly.
